Passion Project

Terrace House

A terrace house in Paddington, Sydney required extension for a family of 3 that love to host friends, wished for open planned living and separate zones for the children and mum. As a heritage listed structure, there were many limitations on the renovation. The heritage restrictions meant that I could maintain the Victorian details from the facade and carry these throughout the interior.

This project taught me how to design on a large scale from initial design conception, to sourcing FF&E schedules, to creating SketchUp floorplans, reflected ceiling plans and 3D renderings. I was able to create a space that catered to the clients needs as well as enhancing form and function.

Moodboards

Modern

Moder interior design style is characterised by simplicity, clean lines and a focus on functionality.

Modern Moodboard created by Bortolazzo Interior Design, featuring a timeless colour palette, simple lines, and texture of natural materials

This style embraces the clients request of a simple, timeless colour pallete. Three main colours of beige, black and maroon keep this design autumnal, warm and cozy. The simple lines allow the eye to embrace the textural elements of the design, enhancing the use of natural materials and therefore the connection to nature.

Mid-Century Modern

Mid-Century Modern design style is defined by straight lines and connection with nature.

This design embraces the elements of mid-century modern but in a colour palate that suits the client’s personal style. The combination of timbers and natural fibres are reflective of signature mid-century modern connection with nature, while the touch of reflective materials is a nod to the introduction of modern industry.

Mexican Mid-Century Modern

Mexican Mid-Century Modern interior design style focuses on structure, saturated colour and hand-made materials.

Balancing contrasting colours became achievable with the use of repeated pattern and hand made pottery and tiles. The introduction of more structure shapes brings in mid-century modern design with greater emphasis on natural light.

Redesign of the Victorian era Paddington Terrace House with a high importance to find the balance of blending heritage with modern. Maintaining the existing external fret work and window frames was a must, and to continue the Victorian nod inside I opted for intricate cornice and ceiling roses. The types of patterns chosen for rugs, cushions and curtains were reflective of those seen in Victorian homes. The heavy use of colour brings the space into modern day - specifically the use of coloured quartzite as opposed to more traditional marble.

Bespoke design of a master bedroom created by Bortolazzo Interior Design

Redesign and decorate master bedroom of luxury home to provide style, functionality and comfort.

For this design, I have maintained my signature intricate details with the skirting, cornice, moulding and architrave however, by adding a more bold blue colour to the walls I have brought the space into modern luxury. The dark brown timbers and carpet ground the blues allowing the space to also feel grounded and calm.

The main aim for this design was to create a space that felt homely yet luxurious, unique but harmonious, and most importantly, functioned for its desired purpose - that being, a space for new, existing and past clients to come in for a relaxed and tailored consult. This space demonstrates my signature preferences - timber, a pop of colour, unique materials and patterns, stone and a space that flows both visually and practically.

Paint Schedule

This is the paint schedule for the Paddington Terrace House project dictating the exact coverings for each wall, ceiling, door, architrave, cornice and skirting throughout the home. It provides details of each product to be purchased and used including supplier, product code and finish, optimising efficiency in achieving a well-planned end result.

FF&E Schedule

This Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment schedule is an example of how I like to display my FF&E schedules. The simple and clean format make it easy for clients, trades and myself to see the details of each product including supplier, materials, product code, quantity required and cost.

3D Models

I create 3D models either by SketchUp or by hand. Designing by hand allows me to convey the space as I imagine it to be while SketchUp renders allow me to change features as I go.
